ZoomProspector .com redesign to launch at IEDC Annual Conference

Alissa Sklar is the director of marketing for GIS Planning. She has extensive experience as a consultant, writer and educator in the fields of technology and communications. Dr. Sklar has a Ph.D. in Communications from the University of Massachusetts of Amherst, and has as worked closely with B2Bs and economic development agencies to assess, develop and implement social media strategies for business development.

When ZoomProspector.com first launchd in 2008, it forever changed the way economic development happens online. Over the years, site selectors and investors have flocked to the original, patented national site selection portal to choose the communities that best met their selection criteria, and then delved deeper to find the sites or properties in the shortlisted communities. The message was clear - if you wanted your location to be found, you needed to be on ZoomProspector.com.

This dramatic online innovation prompted the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) to grant ZoomProspector.com its Excellence in Economic Development award in 2010, with then Chairperson William Best saying, "GIS Planning, Inc. is showing that they are at the forefront of the economic development profession and are using innovative and effective practices that can be replicated in other communities."

The U.S. Department of Commerce declared ZoomProspector.com a second place winner in its prestigious Commerce Business Apps Challenge in 2010 (first place went to our business accelerator tool SizeUp.com, so we were pretty excited about that too!). The judges' assessment was that, "This tool will be valuable for American companies looking to expand their operations inside the United States or companies choosing to bring jobs back from overseas. ZoomProspector.com’s online map-based search can greatly simplify and speed up the site selection process, freeing companies to be able to quickly and accurately make informed decisions based on numerous data sets including demographic, business, transportation, and property information unavailable in any other single website."

New ZoomProspector.com

ZoomProspector.com garnered recognition and kudos from Entrepreneur Magazine, BusinessWeek, Fortune, The Washington Post, TechCrunch and Inc. (among many others), lauding the online innovation that helps "entrepreneurs hone in on untapped markets." Media outlets such as Forbes and BusinessWeek have used the free online tool for research about best locations to live, work and do business.

At GIS Planning, we know innovation requires an ongoing commitment to continuously improve and upgrade our products. Our ZoomProspector Enterprise remains the leader in GIS location analysis software, serving 58% of Americans in communities across the country (plus communities in 4 Canadian provinces), with regular updates to features, depth and breadth of data and functionality. The five Intelligence Components we released in the past 18 months have changed the way economic development websites engage visitors with online data tools. Our SizeUp Local Business Intelligence (LBI) tool is the only online business accelerator of its kind on the market.

With this in mind, we wanted to let you know we will be soft launching a completely redesigned ZoomProspector.com at the IEDC Annual Conference in Anchorage, Alaska on Sunday, October 4th 3:45 p.m. at booth 400. (Click here to tweet this big news!) I won't give away the most exciting details here just yet, but I wanted to give you some hints. In addition to a completely redesigned and intuitive interface you will find features not available on any other national site selection portal, with data that drills down further, visuals that instantly communicate complex information and unprecedented opportunities to engage with site selectors and potential investors.

Now, more than ever, if you want to be found by location advisors and businesses, your region will need to be represented on ZoomProspector.com.

Not joining us at the IEDC annual conference this year? No problem - follow the event with live tweets at @ZoomProspector. And watch this space. You won't want to miss the most exciting thing to happen in economic development since, well, since the first time we launched ZoomProspector.com.
