GIS Planning

Mapping Options

Our clients  can choose either ESRI or Google mapping technologies.

ESRI's mapping is a state of the art GIS technology which allows for powerful map analysis and the display of local GIS data layers - especially those that use polygons, such as parcels, land use, zoning, incentive areas, business improvement districts, and similar items.  These types of map layers can be used in addition to the typical map layers such as streets, freeways, and water-elements.    Local aerial imagery can also be included.  Two other advantages are that currently only this mapping technology option provides drive-time demographic reports and the ability to map complete data sets of businesses by industry.  With the exception of the Google Earth plugin, this mapping option provides all data and feature options.  For an example of this mapping technology visit www.OKCedis.com.

Google’s mapping technology allows the display of the map layers and information provided by Google.  This typically includes streets, freeways, water-elements, and aerial/satellite imagery.  Currently, Google Maps is not very compatible with showing multiple polygon map layers such as parcels, land use, etc.  Also, because Google currently limits the number of points that can be plotted on the map, not all businesses by industry can always be shown on the map interface.  Drive-time demographic analysis is also not available with this technology option at this time.  However, and advantage of this option is that the street, highway, and aerial/satellite imagery are included at no cost, which is a benefit if your organization does not already have access to this data.  In addition, this option provides access to the Google Earth plugin which allows users of your website to dynamically fly through the geography of your region.  For an example of this mapping technology visit www.nevadasitesearch.com.
